Wimpy Levels

The Wimpy Levels are the first and easiest levels in Hook Champ.
They have no special characteristics but introduce the player to springs and breakable blocks, serving as a set of tutorial levels.

  • Uniquely in this level there is no Chaser to chase you, allowing you to take any amount of time completing the level.
  • If it's your first time playing start by walking forwards. Follow the instructions on how to latch and you won't have any problems completing the level. Replay it a few times until you get the controls.
  • Don't worry about not being able to get the coin under the bridge on your first playthrough. You need to upgrade your loot vacuum in order to get it.

Speed-run Guide:

  • Start off by trying to latch to the roof. If you have rocket boots walk slightly to your right and then use one; using one directly will send you into a gap in the roof. If you have the shotgun you can use a shotgun blast instead of walking and then a rocket boot charge.
  • For a perfect speed-run it's important that you make it past the very first obstacle without missing any coins losing momentum. This can be incredibly hard, but try dropping diagonally into the gap, latch under the hanging pillar swinging yourself upward and then use a shotgun blast to propel yourself forward if you have one, otherwise just continue by latching to the hanging pillar. If you go too high before the obstacle you will miss the first coin and the last one can be missed if you use a shotgun blast too high.
  • Continue latching, you might want to latch once or twice to the roof between the two hanging pillars if your rope is long enough, then drop yourself down just over the edge of the fall.
  • You will reach a low tunnel. When you get to the ascent you can either swing yourself up by latching close to the end of the roof and swinging yourself upwards or use rocket boots. If you can't swing yourself up and can't use rocket boots you can also latch directly to the higher roof and keep latching which will pull yourself upwards. Swinging yourself up or using rocket boots are equally fast, but reeling yourself upwards is very slow.
  • Next there's a drop, try dropping diagonally forwards-downwards without hitting the wall. If you drop too early you'll end up in a hole. It's tricky but possible. Make sure you don't go too low in the new passage or you won't be able to rise up fast enough for the next small ascent.
  • You will enter an area with several roofs. Try latching once to each one.
  • When you reach the rings try latching the burning ring and the last ring. Keep going by latching to the roof, then the burning ring at the top of the triangle of rings you come across, and continue onwards.
  • The passage has a few gaps in the roof but they shouldn't be any trouble.
  • In the final room there is a long, straight line of rings. Try latching to every second or third ring; it's easier than latching to every single one. If you have trouble with this you can use a rocket boot charge as soon as you enter the room, which will safely take you across most of or the entire room without having to do any latching.
  • Make a latch to the final hanging pillar sending you through the finish line.
  • Playing Gunny or Zelle using this method you will have two extra shotgun blasts, that you can use in any long corridor to speed yourself up, and a rocket boot charge.

Bronze Wimpy

  • SpriteCoin.png 20 SpriteGem.png 0, Par time: 150.00

Speed-run Guide:

  • The Chaser starts slightly outside of the level and finishes after 130 seconds. It takes 5 seconds to eat the player.
  • Start off by using a shotgun blast. Remember that you don't have to take off instantly, instead let yourself slide over the ground for a while before you begin latching the roof.
  • Next there's an ascent. It is possible to swing yourself up by latching at the very end of the roof, but using a rocket boot charge will be much easier. Still timing is important: use them so early that you hit the roof of the first corridor or you'll hit a wall but late enough that they still carry you up to the new level. It's actually possible to rocket boot yourself straight onto the springs ahead, but it's recommended that you latch once to the roof in order to correct your course before hitting them.
  • Use the springs, they're there for a reason and using any method to avoid using the them will not be profitable.
  • Now you should reach a new roof with three coins below it. In front of you in the upper corner of the wall ahead of you is a hidden path. Either swing into it and jump on the hidden spring to get into the hidden passage or use a rocket boot charge directly after grabbing all three coins. If you use the rocket boots at the right time you should hit the low roof, go through the hidden area and fly up into the hidden passage. As soon as you go above floor level in the hidden passage use a shotgun blast if you have one to gain instant speed. If you don't hit the high floor in the hidden passage you used the rocket boot/shotgun blast combination just right.
  • Continue latching through the hidden passage and go downwards to avoid the sinking roof, but don't go too far down or you'll hit a wall. Swing yourself into the opening with the two coins ahead. Latching to the roof just above the two coins is good and make sure you fly out at a stable height.
  • You will come to a a vertical section with two springs. It's very difficult to swing past this one, so either drop on the first spring and begin latching past the second one or use a rocket boot charge just as you go behind the orange cave decoration, or later.
  • Now you will reach a very short roof, be sure to make a long latch, one is enough if you're upgraded, that throws you far ahead because the roof will cease for a moment and at the same time a small staircase will make the tunnel narrower. Continue going through the four coins and prepare for a drop. Throw yourself just over the edge of the fall and wait until you fall beneath roof level of the new passage, then instantly begin latching forward. If you have a shotgun blast use it before latching, it should give you higher speed faster and you won't have to worry about hitting the ground as you will slide for a moment after having used the shotgun.
  • A gap in the roof will mark that you're close to the end of the passage. Latch to the roof after the gap to make sure you hit the springs ahead with enough momentum. Though momentum is important you won't want to hit the springs too late or they will launch you straight into a wall ahead.
  • Latch to the roof over the five coins, drop down in the large gap ahead and latch once to the final hanging pillar sending you through the final five coins and through the finish line.
  • Playing Gunny or Zelle using this method, you should have one shotgun blast to use as you want, and one rocket boot charge.

Silver Wimpy

  • SpriteCoin.png 20 SpriteGem.png 0, Par time: 150.00

Speed-run Guide:

  • The Chaser finishes after 130 seconds. It takes 4 seconds to eat you.
  • Start off by latching by latching to the roof. If you have a shotgun blast you can use it for instant speed. If you use a shotgun blast remember that you don't have to start latching directly, instead let yourself slide over the floor for a little while before you begin latching.
  • After about three to four latches you will reach the first gap in the roof. Swing yourself up by latching close to the end of the roof or use rocket boots to launch yourself directly up to the roof, then latch along the roof slightly above the height of the rings and blocks.
  • Drop down just as you reach the end of the rings and the orange cave decoration in the roof pointing slightly downwards. Done right you should drop straight towards a row of four coins. Latch once to the wall or roof to the right, just a slight tap should send you in the right direction down the gap ahead and into the next tunnel.
  • Keep swinging straight through the first wall of blocks and grab the row of five coins. For the second wall try aiming in between two rows of blocks while going straight ahead with a lot of momentum, that should crush all four blocks in front of you without you touching any of the other blocks. If you latch just before the wall in order to gain some extra momentum chances are you'll send yourself diagonally upwards into the wall only destroying the higher block in the second line leaving you standing on the lower block severely decreasing your momentum. The same will happen if you aim for the top two blocks, you will destroy both blocks but will end up standing still on the row of blocks beneath you. Breaking long lines of blocks perfectly is a difficult art. For the final wall of three lines of blocks try doing the same or dropping yourself diagonally downwards through the wall, getting past it without hitting the wall after it is difficult. If you have a shotgun blast just drop yourself to the floor just before the line of blocks and use the shotgun blast and it will safely slide you over the floor, break all the blocks and send you into the next low tunnel without hitting anything.
  • Keep latching to the roof and once you get to the vertical section with several springs you've got several options depending on how well-equipped you are. If you have no items just drop yourself onto the first spring, latch to the left wall and use the left-side spring, latch again to the left wall and repeat until you have used all three left-side springs, then let the last one send you right and begin latching into the top tunnel. If you have a rocket boot charge you will want to use it at the very entrance of the section sending you up through the middle of the blocks leading into the room, this should send you straight upwards and let you skip both the first spring and the first left-side spring, then continue as described above until you're in the top tunnel. If you have two rocket boot charges use the first one as described above, then latch to the left wall and use the other one sending you up to the final spring and let it send you into the top tunnel as described above. If you have three rocket boot charges use the first two as described above and the third one directly after the second one, this should completely eliminate the need for using springs, then latch right into the top tunnel. Finally if you also have a shotgun blast you can use it just as you hit the last left-side spring and it will throw you into the top tunnel with high momentum. If you used the three-rocket-boot strategy you will want to use the shotgun blast shortly after the final rocket boot charge so that it throws you just over the edge leading into the top tunnel, then continue. Remember using rocket boots without latching to the left wall will send you into the lower tunnel to your right. Sometimes this will happen anyways, if so just retry. The method using three rocket boot charges and a shotgun blast is the fastest.
  • Continue latching through the tunnel, grab the three coins and be prepared for a slight drop. Beneath the stalagmite ahead there are two blocks that can be broken, try landing directly at them, though since there's a small risk that you'll land to soon hitting the ground instead and not breaking the blocks you might want to throw yourself at the wall after it instead and let yourself drop through the blocks, but remember that you will have to hit the wall higher than just above the blocks or you won't have enough downwards momentum to break them. As soon as you have fallen beneath roof level of the new tunnel latch ahead and go through the row of five coins while preparing for a long drop. Using a shotgun blast here won't give you much speed advantage.
  • Go just over the edge ahead and fall all the way down, preferably without hitting the wall ahead even though it's virtually impossible to avoid, then latch beneath the final hanging pillar to send yourself through the five coins and the finish line.
  • Playing Gunny or Zelle using this method you should have one shotgun blast remaining to use as you wish.

Golden Wimpy

  • SpriteCoin.png 30 SpriteGem.png 0, Par time: 145.00

Speed-run Guide:

  • The Chaser finishes after 130 seconds. It takes 10 seconds to eat you.
  • Start off by walking straight ahead and stand on the first block in the ground, under the stalagmite in the roof. Now wait for it and the block below it to break. It's important that you stand just right; if you stand too far to the left you'll stay on solid ground as the block breaks, if you stand too far to the right you'll stand on the right block and have to wait for it to break. Also if you have any walking momentum left you might jump up on the right block as soon as the left one breaks, or jump up on solid ground if you're facing left. Pause and restart until you get it right.
  • As the lowest block breaks, be ready. As soon as you fall beneath the roof level of the low tunnel below begin latching forwards or use a shotgun blast to gain instant momentum before you begin latching. Stick close to the roof and as you reach the end of the passage either drop yourself on the first spring in the corner, use the second spring and then begin latching forwards in the main corridor or use a rocket boot charge to launch yourself up through the blocks, then as soon as you go above the floor level of the main corridor either start latching forwards use a shotgun blast to gain instant speed before you start latching.
  • Continue latching through the corridor while not going too high or you'll miss the row of four coins in it's lower half. When the corridor opens up start traveling slightly upwards to make sure you end up above the bridge ahead. Depending on how upgraded your loot vacuum is you will want to either stay high in this corridor or keep going in a straight line, a short while into it there is a row of five coins quite high and if you go too low you'll miss them.
  • Keep latching to the roof and grab the row of three coins. When you reach the vertical section with springs either drop on the springs in the corner, use the second set of springs to reach the top of the tunnel, then start latching forwards, or use a rocket boost charge to skip past the springs. If you have a shotgun blast use it as soon as you get in line with the blocks up above to go through them. Quickly latch to the roof and keep going high or you'll hit a low wall.
  • Next is a long passage of split roofs. Latch twice to each roof, once at the beginning and once at the end, to make sure you swing yourself far enough to reach the next one. Don't worry too much about falling because there are several springs on the ground to save you if you fall. When you reach a smaller roof with a skull hanging from it you're at the end, swing yourself into the next corridor.
  • Keep latching through the corridor, grab the row of five coins and prepare for a large drop, swinging yourself just over the edge ahead. Drop along the wall ahead, since not touching it is probably impossible, then as soon as you have dropped through the blocks begin latching forwards, but don't use a shotgun blast here because there's a wall coming up.
  • The roof is very short, so only latch about twice to it. You will reach another vertical section with springs. Either drop on the first spring in the corner and use all three springs to reach the top or use two rocket boot charges to reach the top and then begin latching forward as soon as you're in the new corridor.
  • Swing through the passage with several drops and when you reach the end drop just over the edge and fall down the entire distance. As soon as you go below roof level in the low corridor begin latching forwards or use a shotgun blast and before you start latching. When the corridor opens up travel slightly upwards and go straight into the finish line.
  • Playing Gunny or Zelle using this method you should have no items left.
